How to fortify
Read the essentials of relationship fortification in the 4 sections below, and ask your partner to do the same. It shouldn't take more than 30 to 40 minutes.

Important: Both partners should read all four sections before trying a fortification session. Don't try to summarize for your partner, or "figure it out as you go"—the details are what make fortification work.
Once you have a shared understanding, schedule your first session!

What if my partner isn't receptive?
-
Give them time.
They might just need to get their head around the idea before they agree. Ask them to think on it and follow up in a week.
-
Get curious.
If they still refuse, ask why they're reluctant. See what you can do to address their concerns.
-
Insist.
Tell them that fortification doesn't have to be a lifelong commitment—but it's important that they at least try. If all else fails, send them to our "I don't want to do this" page.
Schedule your first relationship fortification session.
